setting a tide clock

I no longer sell tide clocks but will gladly repair or answer questions about clocks purchased previously. Just email , call or write (other contact info included on the order page). To set your tide clock, follow these instructions:

tide clock faceConsult your local newspaper or weather station for the exact time of high tide. Set the hour hand according to this information. On a tide clock the hour hand is the ony relevant indicator of tide time. The quartz movements I use are calibrated to a 12 hour and 25 minute lunar cycle.

For the most accurate tide timekeeping, set your tide clock at the exact time of high tide on the day of a full moon. Most newspapers and many calendars list the dates of each month's full moon. (This information is also available on the Old Farmer's Almanac web site.) If the tide clock is set correctly on the day of the full moon it will display the minimum error throughout the entire month. Usually the discrepancy will be less than 30 minutes and therefore will be unnoticeable. Typically only for our five days each month will have a difference as great as an hour.
